Project 6 Second Progress Review

  1. Hi Dominic!
I think your project is going well and the story line is getting clearer now! I can see that this is a recording of a musician's daily life, and the second progress is more directly related to the musician's work.

Your first photo connects the story, but perhaps photographing more musical devices will better illuminate the responsibilities of musicians and the complexity of their work. The other photos are detailed records of the musicians at work. I think you did a great job with both the camera settings and the use of light! None of the photos are too dark or exposed, capturing the right details about the people and the environment. The composition of photo 2 is very good. One is marking music and the other is eating and the surrounding equipment provides enough information for the photo. Photo 3 is an environmental one, fully illustrating the musicians' rehearsal environment, where you use different POVs (not on drums or in front of people) to create an intimate atmosphere where everyone is gathered together, in contrast to the oppressive feeling of a black room. Great job! Photo 4 is perfect and uses light to create a strong sense of atmosphere. The dark surrounding highlights the subject. It is very simple and attractive! I guess both photo 5 and photo 6 increased the ISO. The background figures in photo 5 enhanced the serious atmosphere of the rehearsal with good DOF but did not steal the pianist's attention. Photo 6 is very interesting. The focus of the first man is contrasted with that of the latter two. There is a large blank space on the top part of the photo, but environmental reasons and camera settings control my attention on the first man. I like photo 7 very much, because I can see the smile of the man faintly. This photo enriches the feelings of musicians at work and indirectly reveals their love for music. Photos 8, 9, and 10 have a problem with the device in front of the person, especially the fact that they reflect light, which diverts some of the viewer's attention.

Since the space is small and there are many music devices, people can try more POV to avoid clutter or blocking when taking musician pictures in front. You can also zoom in and record local movements of hands and faces, just like in photo 4. If you can, I think some shots that don't include musicians can enrich the details, such as a sheet of music score that full of notes.
Overall, perfect job on this project! I'm looking forward to seeing your final photo paper!
